Those, who prefer the warm weather to the cold rainy one, are welcome to the Krasnodar region because it is located in the south of the European part of Russia near the very popular Black sea Coast.

The Krasnodar territory or popularly called KUBAN by the name river Kuban covers an area of more than 76 thousand square Km and has a population about 5 million people. The KUBAN is often described as Russia's Gem and you will see that it is not accidental. Hot southern sun, the Black and the Azov seas, boundless steppes and snow mountains of the Caucasus, forests, fields, vineyards and beaches, quiet villages and busy cities-this is KUBAN.

Krasnodar is the capital city of KUBAN and is situated 1500 km to the south-south-east of Moscow near Black sea coast. The climate over the majority of the mainland is about Mediterranean -the mean temperature in January is - 2 degree C and in July + 30 degree C.

Krasnodar is the center of Academic science and Education of the KUBAN. There is an international airport with access to Middle East and European countries. It is a beautiful green city having a blend of different architectural styles. 

There are 16 specialized secondary schools, 8 State educational establishments of higher learning and several non-state institutions, 75 public libraries and 18 book-stores. There are large sea ports on the shores of the Black and Azov seas.
Out of those several higher educational establishments in Krasnodar, eight of them train foreign students to specialization in various fields including Medicine. Every year these institutions educate about 1500 foreign students from 80 countries all over the world including Indian students.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Kuban State Medical University is one of the oldest medical educational establishments in the South of Russia, located at Krasnodar. It was founded in 1920 as a medical faculty of the University and in 1921 it was established as an independent educational institution - Kuban State Medical Institute.

In 1994 according to the decree of the Russian Government the Institute got the status of Academy. It started to train foreign students in early sixties. Within 73 years of the academy's life more than 35,000 doctors of various specialties and 5000 foreigners from 65 countries of the world were graduated from it.

The Academy comprises educational buildings, four dormitories, a large library comprising 560000 volumes of scientific books and manuals for students, new student's canteen for 280 people, sports facilities and 7-storied Morphological building with lecture hall for 400 students. Eight departments are located in this modern building.

The academic staff of 600 is represented by 12 academicians of Russian and foreign academies of science, 65 doctors of medical sciences and 330 candidates of science. There are more than 5000 students at the Academy and among them more than 700 foreign students.

All known methods of training are used in the academy to educate doctors: lectures and practical classes, seminars and laboratory classes, observation of patients in the best medical establishments of the city, scientific and practical conferences, various thematic competitions and contests, research activities in the departments and several anatomic museums.

Equally with the organization of training there is scientific and research work. Various fundamental explorations and applied scientific researches are accomplished in the departments of the Academy. Vital scientific researches are made in the departments of microbiology, histology and normal physiology. At present the University has four main faculties :

• Medical (specialty - Doctor of General Medicine). The student is trained within six years and gets the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD).
• Pediatric (Specialty - Pediatrics). The student is trained with in six years and gets the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD-Pediatrics).
• Stomatological (specialty- Stomatologist Dentist). Period of training 5 years with the degree MDS. 
• Postgraduate training, that is training on separate medical specialties, internships, clinical studies, post graduate course on all specialties, including medical and Surgical specialties (Neurology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Oncology, General surgery, Internal medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Venereal diseases, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Social and preventive Medicine, Radiology. etc.)

After the successful training and defending a thesis the graduate gets the degree PhD in respective specialties.

Period of training, depending on the specialty and form of training is from two to five years. Short-term training and advanced courses from one to twenty four months are also available in accordance with individual programme.
