Lugansk is one of the largest cities of Ukraine, an important scientific and cultural center.. Lugansk (pronounced in Ukrainian as Luhansk) region is situated in eastern Ukraine and borders on the Russian Federation in the east , the north and the south. The total length of the state border in our region is about 700 km.

Lugansk is not only a beautiful city with parks, public gardens and memorial places, but also one of the largest industrial centers of Ukraine. Lugansk is famous for its institutes and universities: Lugansk State Medical University, the East-Ukrainian National University, Shevchenko State Pedagogical University, State Agricultural University and Institute of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Lugansk state medical university was founded in the year of 1956. Lugansk state medical University is one of the oldest and leading medical higher institutions of Ukraine and former USSR. Recognised by the MCI and High level of qualification allows graduates of the University to work successfully not only in India but in many countries of the world, to achieve great success in science and practical public health services. Among them are scientists, heads of public health service, honoured doctors.

Lugansk State Medical University is a higher educational instuition of the top accreditation level (conferred by the State Accreditation Committee of Ukraine). At the Lugansk state medical University there are six faculties and a preparatory department. The Lugansk state medical University trains specialists along the following education / qualification levels: Junior specialists, specialists, Masters for the following specialties:

400 teachers, among them 63 doctors of sciences, 273 candidates of sciences, including five Honored Science and Technique Workers of Ukraine, one Honored Worker of public education of Ukraine, two Honored doctors of Ukraine, two Laureates of State prize of Ukraine carry out pedagogical, scientific, medical and educational work at 48 departments.

Lugansk state medical University has very good facilities. There are five building for theoretical classes and a wide net of clinical bases of medical institutions of Lugansk, which are equipped at the level corresponding to world standards. Today Lugansk State Medical University is a complex of buildings designed for practical classes, lectures, laboratory studies, library, research work and auxiliary services, covering. The total area owned by the Lugansk state medical University is 70466 sq.m: within it the area of study and laboratory premises is 33598 sq. mts. The teaching area per one student is 15 sq.m. Other clinical bases used by the Lugansk state medical University are administered by the Government healthcare department.

The Lugansk state medical University's long experience in training of foreign specialists, highly qualified teaching staff and modern facilities - all guarantee high level of theoretical and practical training to the students of the University.
Main levels of education are Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses. Training at Lugansk state medical University is carried out in the Ukrainian, Russian and English languages.

Lugansk State Medical University has a very good hostel system with fully furnished rooms, quite study environment and surrounded with recreation center. The University posses 5 hostels with the total area of 28431 sq.m for accommodation of 2220 students.

In order to live comfortably while you are in Lugansk, you will need to have about $USD 1200 per year available for living costs, above the cost of your tuition. The cost of living is cheaper than any other cities in the European countries. It is difficult to give a precise figure because of differences in the student lifestyle.

A comprehensive health care service is provided to all the students.All students are medically insured. The medical care provided by the University covers preventive care, treatment, medicaments, operations and medical examination.

The department of physical education and health is placed in the building of sport complex. 12 teachers - trainers conduct studies in physical training during 5 years of student studies.

The university has active sections in athletics, volleyball, football, basketball, table and grass tennis, chess, swimming, aerobics, fitness, karate and others which offer a wide range of sporting opportunities.

The University football, volleyball and basketball teams regularly have competitons with other college and Universities in Lugansk. Outdoors events include tournaments on different kind of sports take place in summer on the opened stadium. Indoor there are also a sauna and recreational studio.

In 2008-2009 academic year the total strength of foreign students is more than 2000 students from 57 countries are studying in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and post-graduate course. The range of countries from which foreign students come to study at the university is very wide. More than 990 students are from India alone next in strength to students from Nigeria.
