ROSTOV-ON-DON
Rostov-on-Don is in the south of the European part of the country on the right bank of the River Don, some 48 km from the Sea of Azov and is the administrative center of Rostov Region. The climate is continental, with moderately cold winters (the mean January temperature is -7°C) and fairly hot summers (the mean July temperature is +23°C).
Rostov regards its founding date as 1749. The settlement that grew up, around it became a town in 1796 and began to be called Rostov-on-Don. Its economic progress started in the middle of the last century and it became a major center of southern commerce and export point for Russian grain.

Rostov-on-Don has nine higher educational establishments, including a university, four theatres, museums, hundreds of libraries, research and design institutes, many parks, and gardens. The city is a hive of construction, with multi-store blocks of flats rising and administrative buildings of modern architectural designs gracing the landscape.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
The Rostov state medical university - one of the oldest high schools of the country. The
High School has prepared more than 30000 doctors, in it has passed advanced training courses more than 35 thousand doctors, and has prepared more than 200 doctors and 1000 candidates of sciences, among which about 100 young scientists are from 19 countries of three continents.
Now the Rostov State Medical University is one of the most dear and prestigious higher educational medical institutions of Russia. Our University continuing traditions of outstanding
Scientists: Professors I.S. Tsitovich, A.I. Jushchenko, N.A. Bogoraz, P.I.Buhman, B.A. Kogan, N.A. Rozhansky, N.I. Napalkov, P.I. Emdin, K.H. Orlov, I.F. Pozharisky, S.I.Krinitsky, etc.
Founded in the year 1915 as a Medical faculty of Donskoi University and in 1930 it became an independent medical institute, and now a medical university by itself.
In the structure of the university are 5 faculties: General medicine; Pediatrics; Medico prophylactics, post-degree specialization, Preparatory faculty for foreigners, medical college for nurses.
In the 64 different departments the academic process is set rolling by more than 600 teaching staff, of which 70 are professors, doctors of science and 420 candidates of science. Annually 4000 students study in the institute and nearly 3000 doctors specialize to increase their qualification.
The University has its own clinic, which has 1000 beds, and apart from this has its bases in the largest city hospitals also, which enables the students to acquire sound practical knowledge and skills. From the year 1963 the degree of medicine was conferred to more than 2,500 doctors from 87 countries of the world. And nearly 400 foreign doctors have received the degree of candidates of science. The University has well constructed student hostels to accommodate 2500 students where both Russian and foreign students live.
